What is the ParishWorld App?
a Faith-Centered Magazine for Catholics,
a Mobile Publication for Catholic Parishes,
a Church Finder for travelling Catholics, and
a Daily Guide to Catholic Prayers and Liturgy
You can navigate through the app using the Main Menu (Grid) icon on upper left hand corner of the Home Page. You also have the option to swipe through 6 'Top Story' pages.
The Top Story - Church page will turn into the Parish page (for subscribing parishes) and can only be customized by the Parish. The Top Story page labeled 'Featured Today' is customizable with a Page Title and syndicated sources of your choice. Click on the Gear Icon at the top of that page to customize.
Swiping vs. Scrolling
The app attempts to determine your intent when you swipe or scroll. Since it is possible to swipe and scroll at an angle, it will be difficult to decide what you meant. As a guide, please make your swipes as horizontal as possible and in quick motions. Scrolls have more tolerance but you will have a more predictable experience if you move in a straight line for each type of action.
If your Parish is a subscriber to ParishWorld, you should choose it as your Parish Church. Certain features are triggered based on the subscription and participating parishes have extra content. For non-subscribing parishes, you can still view mass times and locations. You should allow the app access to your location (GPS). The GPS data is not stored at ParishWorld.
Customized Top Stories
One of the best features of the App is that you can customize the Top Story Pages content to suit what interests you. You can even change the Page heading. To customize each Top Story Page, click on the Gear icon in the Top right corner. You will then be given choices to Subscribe or Unsubscribe to Sources. At any time, you can go back to our default settings by doing a "Reset to Default".
The content options on the App are syndicated sources. Some sources may not format their content well or may not provide good images. Please email us at Editor to give us your opinion on sources and suggest other sources.
Due to the number of images to load, each Top Story page (swiped pages) may take some time to load when you first start the app. However, the data will be cached so paging will be very fast once you let that initial load occur.
